High SCHOOL Division

The Grade Point Average(GPA) for high school students is computed by averaging the numerical value of the semester grades using the following conversion for non Advanced Placement Courses : A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1. Advanced Placement Courses use the following conversion: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 and F=0..

Mandarin I

The Mandarin l course is open to high school students who want to learn Chinese from the very beginning. Students will find Mandarin starting with basic spelling, pronunciation and Chinese character writing.

Mandarin II

Mandarin II course focuses on students writing, reading and presentation skills in Chinese while exploring a variety of topics from daily life. Students will learn a variety of vocabulary and more grammar with particular emphasis on listening and Donespeaking.
Prerequisite:: Mandarin I

Mandarin III

Students will understand the basic expressions and knowledge about ordering food in Chinese language and cultural aspects. They will learn about different currencies in the world. They will learn the vocabulary for appearance, food, fruits, ordering food, currency, buying daily necessities. describing symptoms of sickness and living environment.
Prerequisite:: Mandarin II

AP Chinese Language and Culture

AP Chinese Language and Culture provides qualified students opportunities to further explore Chinese culture and improve their communicative skills (interpersonal mode, interpretive mode, and presentational mode). In doing so, they develop their language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course objective is to further develop student’s communicative proficiency in Chinese, develop student’s awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture, for the student to be able to make connections across curriculum by using subject area knowledge, to be able to use critical thinking skills to compare Chinese with other languages and cultures and to be able to use Chinese language to appropriately communicate with Chinese-speaking people and be involved in Chinese community.

Spanish I

The program emphasizes the five C’s of foreign language learning: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. Through reading, writing, listening and speaking activities students will learn to express basic needs and participate in basic introductory conversations, to express preferences, and to ask and answer basic questions about current and future events.

Spanish II

The Spanish II course is a continuation and enhancement of the study of Spanish 1. A review of Spanish I is followed by continued study of the target language and cultures, with emphasis on vocabulary development, language structure, and aural/oral and written comprehension of Spanish language.

Spanish III

This course is a continuation and enhancement of the study of Spanish II. Instruction emphasizes a higher level of communication than expected in introductory courses in a foreign language. At this point in foreign language development, the course of study shifts to requiring the adaptation of acquired language skills to personal needs. Instruction includes exploration of new and challenging topics and experimentation with more complex language structures. Participants are expected to engage in elaborate, extended, and well-organized discourse in Spanish. Culture and heritage continue to be presented.

Korean I

Korean I course aims to train students to perform appropriate spoken and written communication in most essential daily life situations. This course will focus on mastering correct pronunciation, writing system, and basic vocabulary and grammar used in carrying out simple real-life tasks; students will learn how to speak, understand, read and write short sentences and paragraphs on concrete and familiar topics. This course will also introduce Korean culture essential for a better understanding of Korean language.

Korean II

Korean II is a continuation and enhancement of the study of Korean I. A review of Korean I is followed by continued study of the target language and cultures, with emphasis on vocabulary development, language structure, and oral and written comprehension of Korean language.
