- Math in Upper Elementary School (Grades 3 – 5)
- Students develop an understanding of multiplication, division, and decimals
- Students classify, measure, describe, compare and interpret data
- Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles
- Graph points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world and mathematical problems
- Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties
At the 3-5 level, students are starting to apply more advanced math concepts and begin to develop and understanding of geometry and graphing. Students will practice procedural skills like multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. They will also learn to identify 2-D and 3-D objects and classify them based on their properties. Students will develop their problem solving skills through real-world authentic tasks. Our instructional methods include below.
- Big books for group work
- Real-life application [STEM]
- Focus groups
- Real-world problems
- Manipulatives
- Peer tutoring
- Games
- Math Centers
